Nagar Vachanalaya, Satara

Shrimant Chhatrapati Pratap Singh Maharaj (Thorle) Nagar Vachanalaya, Satara is a public library in Satara city. It is one of the few libraries in Maharashtra that are over a century old. The library is known as the cultural center of the central part of Satara city. Shri. Ch. Pratap Singh Maharaj had a hobby of collecting books. He had started his own library. After him, his brother Appasaheb also added to it. After his death, his wife Sagunabai handed over this library along with its land to the public. Thus, this library was established on 6 July 1853. The initial name was 'Native General Library'. In 1866, another library was merged with it and named 'Satara City General Library'.
